Xen-Do’s Party Survival Guide
The Christmas party season is fast approaching and most of us will be looking forward to indulging in the celebrations. Luckily, Louise O’Driscoll, Xen-Do’s affiliated Holistic Health Coach, is here to advise on how to minimise the negative effects of the parties, ease the suffering the next day and avoid hangovers interfering with your kickboxing training! In this new series especially for Xen-Do kickboxing and martial arts students in London she looks at how to prepare for a good night out, enjoy the party and be on form for your Xen-Do training session the morning after. Before you go!
A certain amount of planning prior to your night out can help your body deal with what you are going to be putting it through. During the day leading up to the party, make sure you buy some milk thistle extract – I’ll explain and you’ll thank me later!
Then drink plenty of water so that you are well hydrated and before you head out make sure you have something to eat. Alcohol can be absorbed through our stomach wall very quickly – the faster this happens, the more stress is put on our digestive system, liver and kidneys that process it and the faster you will feel drunk.
A meal or snack that contains some good fat and low GI carbohydrate is the best choice to line your stomach and slow alcohol absorption down. Great choices would be a salmon and avocado wrap or a wholegrain sandwich with cheese. As well as helping your system cope better with the booze and enable you to last until last orders, this strategy should also help you resist the urge to demolish every canapé in sight!
