Sensei Richard Charles
Sensei Richard is a true veteran of the martial arts world with his career spanning across four decades. He began when he was 15 years old, learning Shotokan Karate and continued progressing through the ranks until he reached 1st Dan.
Having conquered this discipline, Sensei Richard switched to kickboxing and found his home with Master Raf at the origins of Xen-Do: The Tonbridge Club in Kings Cross. He has been training with Master Raf for over 20 years. Naturally, he has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience. So if you ever need some advice, Sensei Richard is the person to see because what he doesn’t know about kickboxing isn’t worth knowing.
We caught up with Sensei Richard and asked him what he thought about officially becoming part of the Sensei team and this is what he had to say:
"Martial arts and Xen-Do has been the love of my life for such a long time that one day I woke up and thought, why don’t I just make this my job? As Confucius said ‘Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life’. And who am I to argue with that? I’m absolutely loving it. I can’t wait to get in in the mornings and the days just aren’t long enough."
In his spare time, Sensei Richard loves music and regularly goes to gigs when he can. But to be honest, such is his love for martial arts, he doesn’t really have much spare time!
